DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES The Mechanical Engineering Technologist is responsible for assisting Clients with maintaining an accurate database of technical drawings to assist with standardization of equipment across operations. The Mechanical Engineering Technologist is responsible for ensuring all work is done in accordance with Drillware and client procedures and follows safe work practices. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Work closely with the client to update technical shop drawings for diamond drills and supporting equipment. Present drawings to the internal Engineering Team for final review before presenting to the client.
• Ensure quality standards that meet or exceed our clients’ and Drillware’s requirements.
• Work closely with the internal Engineering team, reviewing and recommending the best use of project tools to achieve objectives, troubleshoot and resolve issues.
• Operate SolidWorks and other computer-assisted design software to develop and prepare engineered drawings for R&D projects from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets, and other data
• Develop presentations for R&D projects and provide status updates when requested.
• Complete project cost analysis with accuracy by collecting cost information from the appropriate departments to ensure project budgets are wisely spent.
• Assist with developing/updating Drillware controlled documents (e.g., Manuals, Forms (FO), Work Instruction (WI), etc.) to ensure equipment changes and new R&D projects are communicated to Training, Safety, Field Operation Management, and the field crew.
• Visit the field to collect feedback, evaluate, and test projects.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
• 1-3 years of engineering experience, working in a shop and/or R&D environment is considered an asset.
• Post-Secondary Diploma in Engineering Technology.
• Advanced CAD and Solidworks skills.
• Advanced computer skills in word processing, email, and the internet.
• Strong mechanical knowledge to diagnose, troubleshoot, and make repairs to a wide range of equipment. Shop experience is considered an asset.
• Strong attention to detail, problem solving skills, creativity and the ability to work in a team environment is required. • Must have a valid Driver’s Licence and must provide a current Driver’s Abstract annually.
• Required online training.
• Other training as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
• This position is based out of company headquarters in Smithers, BC.
• Standard working hours are 6:00 am – 2:30 pm Monday to Friday.
• Office and shop work environment with visits to the field as required.
