Academic Advising
What are Academic Advisors?
Academic advisors are available to help you make informed choices about programs and courses. An advisor will sit down with you and help select the courses that work for your educational plan. The Student Services Advising Team will assist you in finding your way through the maze of college paperwork, course and program options and application procedures for universities and colleges throughout Alberta, Canada and internationally. Please remember that you own your education. Academic advisor are here to help you plan and create your course schedule, but you are ultimately responsible for its accuracy. Advisors are experts in the programs GPRC offers and will help guide you through the transferring process.
Where can I transfer?
We have transfer agreements with the University of Alberta, University of Alberta: Augustana Faculty, Athabasca University, University of Calgary, University of Lethbridge, and MacEwan University. We also have transfer agreements with some smaller institutions. Whatever institution you are planning to transfer to, just let your advisor know and they will do all they can to provide you with the information available.
With the aid of the Alberta Transfer Guide an advisor will sit down with you and plot out the courses needed to transfer to your desired institution.
Want to move out of Alberta?
We have some agreements with institutions outside of Alberta! You could transfer to the Okanagan or even Australia! Speaking with your advisor is the best way to find out all the different opportunities GPRC can offer.
Have questions about policies or rights as a student?
Advisors will help you interpret academic policies and your rights and responsibilities as a student.
Are you struggling with finding balance between work/home life and school?
Come and speak with an Academic Advisor! Advisors will help you find that balance. An advisor will be able to provide you with the information needed to make informed decisions on whether you need a reduced course load, time management, a change in plans, or professional support. GPRC has agreements with professional psychologists that your advisor can access in a discreet and timely fashion. If you just want to talk and have someone listen, where you know it is confidential and safe, please feel free to come and speak with an advisor
