The Health, Safety and Environmental Program was developed in accordance with Alberta Provincial and Canadian Federal Legislation. The Health, Safety and Environmental Program is full of helpful procedures and practices to guide students, employees, and contractors in the safe performance of their work; while attending classes, while on campus, or while attending to GPRC business.

For Your Safety
The Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Act states:
You have the right to know, the right to participate and
the right and obligation to refuse unsafe work!
This means that refusing to perform unsafe work is not only a right, it is a legal requirement in Alberta. If you believe the duties or tasks of the employer or school, that you are required to perform put your health and / or safety at risk you can refuse to perform those duties.
In case of a complaint or refusal of unsafe work please contact the Enterprise Risk Management office for guidance towards a positive resolution.

Report potential and actual hazards right away
Hazards: Report potential or actual hazards to your Instructor, Facilities - Maintenance and Operations or the Residence Manager (if the hazard is at residence). Once reported hazards can be corrected in order to maintain a healthy and safe work environment and to prevent incidents and accidents from occurring in the first place.
Report incidents and accidents no matter how minor
Incident Reporting: If you are on campus, in a classroom, workshop or residence when an incident occurs, tell your Instructor or the Residence Manager right away. You can also report an incident directly to Security or to the Enterprise Risk Management / Safety Office. They can help you fill out the GPRC Incident / Accident Report. Write in as much detail as possible. Remember to date and sign the report.
WCB Reporting: If you are sent to the emergency room or doctor because of an injury or illness sustained while on campus, a WCB Worker Report and WCB Employer Report must be completed within 72 hours of the incident.
Completed Incident / Accident Reports and WCB Reports must be sent in to the Enterprise Risk Management / Safety Office who will send information in to WCB, follow-up on WCB claims, and keep copies of correspondence in a confidential file.
