Making a difference!
The Animal Sciences Department prepares students for fulfilling careers working with a variety of animals, from domesticated pets to farm animals to wild honeybees. Animals are highly integrated into our different environments and need to be taken care of in order to maintain a proper life balance.
Grande Prairie Regional College offers a Diploma in Animal Health Technology, where students receive training in the many facets of animal care. We even have a working farm on site! Exciting and challenging, the courses educate students in the areas of dental procedures, diagnostic imaging, animal nursing, surgical assistance and more. Studies include animal diseases, behaviour, parasitology, and nutrition, to name just a few.
In response to the very serious threat to bee populations worldwide, GPRC has instituted the Commercial Beekeeping Certificate - the only one of its kind in North America! Honeybees are facing possible extinction, and it follows that life on Earth will be forever altered should that become a reality. GPRC has put the best minds together to work on how to solve this problem, and you can become part of the solution!
