Description:
The Summer Camp Leaders will be jointly responsible for developing and leading six
weeks of summer day camps at the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum. This is a 16-
week position running from May 15-August 25, 2024. The first two months will be
spent learning from the education team and assisting in school programming.
July and August will consist of leading six weeks of full-day summer camps with an age range
of 5-13 years old, depending on the camp. There will also be an opportunity for
hands-on field work at various sites in the Peace Region when camps are not running.
Camps are operated at Pipestone Creek Park and the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum
in Wembley, Alberta. This opportunity is ideal for students interested in informal
education and the Forest School program.
This is the perfect position for a fun, enthusiastic person who enjoys spending time
with children, likes dinosaurs, science and nature.
The ideal candidate will have the following attributes/qualities:
1. Comfortable working with children, seniors, and the general public of all ages.
Excellent communication skills and feeling comfortable managing children are
a must.
2. Working towards a university/college degree in education, drama,
palaeontology, geology, science, biology, archaeology or equivalent and is a
returning student
3. Experienced with developing and delivering school, public programs, day camps
and tours
4. Experience working with children, youth, and the general public
5. Knowledgeable (or interested) in Alberta’s geology, palaeontology, flora and
fauna and Aboriginal and natural history
6. Fluent in written and spoken English
7. Efficient in Microsoft Office
8. A self-starter with the ability to work independently and as a team member in
a small office environment
9. Organized with an attention to detail and able to pursue multiple tasks
10.Experience leading programs with children
11.Valid Standard First Aid Certificate
12.Valid Police Security and Child Welfare Check
13.Valid Driver’s License (Class 4 or equivalent is an asset)
14.Access to a vehicle (will be compensated 0.54 cents/kilometer)
15.Ability to provide a clean Driving Abstract.

3. Physically able to stand for several hours and hike up to 5 kilometers
4. Able to lift moderately heavy objects

Any student applying must:
1. Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident or have refugee status in

2. Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
3. Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
4. Willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment.
5. Not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with
YCW.
6. Have been a full-time student (as defined by your educational institution) in
the semester preceding the YCW job.
7. Intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job.

Period of Employment
The period of employment for this position will May 13th, 2024 to August 30th, 2024.
Salary: $18.00/hr

About the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum
The PJCDM is located 2 km outside the Town of Wembley and approximately 33 km
from the City of Grande Prairie. While the successful candidate is responsible for
finding their own accommodation in the Grande Prairie area, the museum can suggest
some potential options. The successful candidate must be present, in-person, at the
museum during work hours. They must be willing to work some evenings and
weekends to accommodate volunteers and special events.
