Your Opportunity:
The Population and Public Health Nurse is a key position working in partnership with a multidisciplinary team and community stakeholders. This position is located at the Manning Community Health Centre in the town of Manning in Northern Alberta, located on the banks of the beautiful Notikewin River. The Manning Farmers Market has been a fixture in Manning for over 30 years. Recreation venues include the Centennial Outdoor Pool, a paved walking trail, a curling rink, a skating and hockey arena, two outdoor ice rinks, a ski hill, a concrete skate park, and an outdoor splash park.
As the Registered Nurse you will effectively use the nursing process to deliver quality care. Provide safe, ethical and patient/family centered health care. Independently provide health assessment, health planning, health education, supportive counseling, preventative and screening measures, referrals and evaluation as appropriate. This position also provides services to individuals, families, groups and communities with attention to diversity and the social determinants of health. This position will be a part of the Immunization for all age groups, influenza program delivery, and health promotion initiatives. Communicable Disease Control - outbreak management, notifiable disease follow up. Maternal/Infant Health including postpartum support, lactation education, prenatal education, and high risk assessment of mother, babies, and families in the home environment. Travel Health - immunization and travel health counselling.
In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. New Graduates are welcome to apply.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years experience within the last 5 years working in a public health nursing unit performing duties supporting: Communicable Disease Control. Must possess strong assessment, communication, organizational, problem solving, and counseling skills. Must be able to work as a part of an interdisciplinary team. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision in a complex dynamic environment. Effective communication skills required, oral and written. Demonstrated advanced critical thinking skills. Demonstrated decision making skills. Ability to work in a fast paced, independent and changing environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered. Public Health nursing experience with immunization, Healthy Beginnings and Child Health Clinic. Maternal/newborn certifications: breastfeeding courses, lactation consultant and childbirth education. Recent nursing experience with pre-natal, labor and delivery, maternal/postpartum, newborn assessment or worked with young families/pediatric population.
