News Archives: GPRC Students Benefit From Community Support
Tuesday, October 20th, 2015
GPRC is investing more than $2 million raised through community donations to the GPRC Alumni/Foundation and the Government of Alberta’s Access to the Future Fund.
In 2014-15 the GPRC Alumni/Foundation raised $952,904 in community contributions and helped secure $1,120,000 Access to the Future Funds.
The funds are being used for one-time, capital projects and initiatives that will have long-lasting benefits for GPRC students including student-focused programs, student financial aid, and campus improvements such as the Theatre Concourse restoration.
“The support of the community to see our students succeed is incredible. We are so fortunate to have our Alumni/Foundation that can reach out into the community and connect donors and supporters directly with the needs of our students,” says President and CEO Don Gnatiuk.
The Theatre Concourse restoration project is a multi-year project that received funding from community donations through the Alumni/Foundation. The project saw what was once a dark corridor of offices turned into a light-filled student and community space.
The project restored architect Douglas J Cardinal’s original vision for the Theatre Concourse and created new common space for students and the community to gather near the Douglas J. Cardinal Performing Arts Centre overlooking the Bear Creek reservoir.
“I want to personally thank all our donors, event sponsors and community supporters who have made this possible. Without the generous support of the community we would not be able to do the work we do to support students,” said Allan Kuechle, the newly elected chair of the GPRC Alumni/Foundation.
“This is just one example of how a donation to the GPRC Alumni/Foundation directly makes a difference to students and the entire community.”
