Tuesday, May 27th, 2014
Ottawa, ON, May 27, 2014 — After more than 42 years serving and promoting Canada’s colleges, the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) has launched a new brand under the name Colleges and Institutes Canada. The Association champions the innovations, applied research, employment and entrepreneurial opportunities created by its 132 member colleges, institutes, polytechnics and cégeps - across Canada and internationally.
The new name better reflects the identities of association members at a critical time for post-secondary education. At the forefront of Colleges and Institutes Canada’s goals is to ensure people know about college innovations; contributions to communities and employment; as well as the broad support Canada’s colleges and institutes enjoy from Canadian industry and partners around the world.
“Canada’s colleges and institutes have changed a lot over the last 42 years and it is time for our Association to reflect that incredible evolution. Canadian colleges now offer a wide variety of programs ranging from certificates, diplomas and degrees to post-graduate diplomas,” said Colleges and Institutes Canada President and CEO, Denise Amyot. “Too often, college & institute credentials have been viewed as second-best. This is not the case and the new Colleges and Institutes Canada brand positions us well to demonstrate the college advantage.”
The beautiful new Colleges and Institutes Canada logo was designed by Matt Szurnicki, a student of production art at Winnipeg Technical College. His concept was the winner out of more than 180 design submissions by college students from across the country.
The stylized maple leaf made of smaller leaves reaching outwards, perfectly illustrates Colleges and Institutes Canada’s collaborative approach and ambition to champion colleges, institutes and polytechnics in Canada. The new logo is an elegant and powerful symbol of growth and prosperity, while illustrating how partnerships and connections contribute to a stronger future.
Colleges and Institutes Canada is the national and international voice of 95 per cent of Canada’s publicly funded colleges, institutes and polytechnics. We work with industry and social sectors to train 1.5 million learners of all ages and backgrounds at campuses serving over 3,000 urban, rural and remote communities in Canada. The Association operates in 29 countries via 13 offices around the world. Colleges and Institutes Canada is also the secretariat for the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP).
