GRANDE PRAIRIE - Grande Prairie Regional College’s (GPRC) annual Community and Alumni Recognition Awards will take place online this year. Like many events of late, the celebration is being adapted and will go virtual in order to limit COVID-19 risks and comply with public health restrictions.
During the week of March 29, the 2021 award recipients will be announced and honoured on the College’s website and social media channels. Hosted by the GPRC Alumni/Foundation, the yearly awards were established in 2004 to recognize community members and GPRC alumni for their exemplary contributions within the region.
“For almost 20 years we’ve been honouring the adaptability and dedication of our GPRC community,” said Kevin Szakacs, Chair, GPRC Alumni/Foundation. “Naturally we are disappointed that we can’t celebrate in-person at our annual luncheon but we understand completely and are excited to virtually acknowledge these significant achievements.”
On Monday, March 29 at 10 a.m. four of the Community and Alumni Recognition Awards winners will be formally announced online.
The Distinguished Volunteer Award recognizes exceptional contributions of time and energy dedicated to the advancement of GPRC. The Distinguished Alumni Award honours a GPRC alumni for outstanding accomplishments in their profession, and/or in service to their community, society or to our College. The Steps to the Greater Alumni Award recognizes the outstanding achievements of a GPRC alumni early in their careers, while the Alumni Award of Excellence recognizes specific, recent accomplishments of a GPRC graduate.
On Tuesday, March 30, the College will reveal the recipient of the Board of Governors Award of Distinction. This award is the College’s highest tribute to an individual within our GPRC community, who has made exceptional contributions and facilitated the advancement of higher education.
On Wednesday, March 31, the newly inducted members to the GPRC President’s Council will be named. The President’s Council consists of individuals who have completed service to GPRC on the Board of Governors or Alumni/Foundation Board of Directors, volunteered as Chair of a major fundraising event, have received the honourary designation of Instructor Emeritus, made a planned gift to the College, or received a distinguished award at GPRC.
“Since arriving at the College last week, I have been impressed by the dedication and passion for our institution,” said Dr. Glenn Feltham, Acting GPRC President and CEO. “I look forward to celebrating with the award recipients and thanking them for their inspiring contributions.”
