News Archives: New Wolves Women's Volleyball Coach Hired

GPRC Wolves Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of John Slauenwhite as the head coach for Wolves Women's Volleyball Team. Slauenwhite, who is currently an assistant coach with the team, will replace retiring head coach Ron Thomson. Over the past 5 years, Coach Slauenwhite has created and developed one of the top female volleyball clubs in Alberta. During this time, he has coached with the Alberta Volleyball Association's Provincial Team Program, coached the Alberta team in the 2010 Arctic Winter Games, coached in the Nova Scotia Provincial Team Program and coached the Spirit River Regional Academy High School Girls Team. Coach Slauenwhite is an NCCP Level 2 Coach and has completed the NCCP Level 3 Volleyball Technical Course. He has attended numerous coaching symposiums including the American Volleyball Coaches' Association Coaching Conference held in Louisville, Kentucky. He is a member of the Alberta Volleyball High Performance Committee of the Alberta Volleyball Association. "My motivation for working with Grande Prairie Regional College is to continue the winning tradition of the women's volleyball program," Slauenwhite stated. "I want to lead the program to a national title," he added. "John brings a number of intangibles to the program," noted Francois Fournier, Athletic Director. "His characteristics of passion and being a student of the game fit very well within the Wolves culture." Slauenwhite currently teaches and coaches at the Spirit River Regional Academy in Spirit River. He is also the founder of the Central Peace Volleyball Club. Slauenwhite will begin his official duties effective July 1, 2013.
