National Depression Screening Day
October
Calgary Counselling Centre, with the help of post-secondary institutions and many corporate partners, has led the community initiative of National Depression Screening Day (NDSD). This free, online, depression test was made available to anyone to check in with their mental health. Keep an eye on our social media each October to find out more.
Bell Let's Talk Day

GPRC participates in this national initiative every year to promote engaging in real conversations about mental health and mental illness. Keep an eye on social media to find out where our booth on campus is located to participate and collect some swag!!
Make Some Noise for Mental Health

GPRC Athletics makes some noise to help reduce stigma around talking about mental health. GPRC Wolves, coaches, students, and staff participate in a march around the Grande Prairie campus making as much noise as they can as part of a province wide initiative.
Pink Shirt Day

GPRC promotes social awareness to stop bullying by wearing pink on Pink Shirt Day. While bullying affects so many people physically, emotionally and mentally. At GPRC students and staff show support by wearing pink to show that we are making an effort to practice kindness and acceptance.

Who Needs Therapy? Treating Psychological Problems
Duration: 30-60 min
This workshop helps answer many common questions about mental health treatment including: What is therapy? What kinds of therapy are available? How do I know if I need therapy? This program also explores how to choose a therapist and what kind of therapist to choose. Seeking therapy is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of bravery and courage for those who choose to address issues that may be holding them back. A Human Relations Media workshop.

QPR: Question, Persuade, Refer - A Suicide Prevention Workshop
Duration: 60-120 min
QPR is a training designed by the QPR Institute to provide capacity to respond to someone in a suicide crisis. This training emphasizes building capacity for individuals to respond early and effectively to risk indicators. Early recognition of warning signs, early intervention and early professional assessment and care can save lives. This heavily researched training teaches participants the warning signs for suicide and the three-step QPR method. Note: this training is highly recommended for staff and faculty members; we'd be happy to set up training sessions for your department.
