News Archives: New GPRC Awards Honor Excellence in Early Childhood Education
Monday, January 4th, 2016
GRANDE PRAIRIE– Nominations open today for GPRC’s new Early Childhood Education Awards that recognize educators working in childcare programs and facilities in our community for their commitment and dedication.
“This is an opportunity for families, co-workers or anyone in the community to recognize the incredible work of early childhood educators,” says Theresa Suderman, Chair of GPRC’s Early Learning and Child Care.
The first five years are critical to a child’s development, so early childhood educators have a life-long positive effect on the lives of the children in their care.
“Every day families throughout our community entrust these individuals to make sure their children are not simply safe and cared for but learning and thriving. We wanted to create a way to recognize that important work in our community,” says Suderman.
A total of five awards will be presented at a ceremony that will be held on May 26, 2016. Award categories include:
- Early Childhood Director of the Year
- Early Childhood Educator of the Year
- Family Day Home Provider of the Year
- Preschool Educator of the Year
- Early Childhood Service of the Year
Anyone can nominate potential award recipients. Nominations close on Feb. 29, 2016. For more information about the awards, the criteria or to get a nomination form visit gprc.ab.ca or contact Kathy Weber at kweber@gprc.ab.ca or by calling 780-539-2753.
