News Archives: Mike Lauzon Leaves Wolves Coaching
Thursday, February 12th, 2015
The head coach of GPRC Wolves Men’s Volleyball has announced his decision to step down from that position. Mike Lauzon, an alumnus of the College, has been the head coach since 2007 and was an assistant coach from 2004. In 2014, Lauzon was awarded the GPRC Alumni Award of Excellence in recognition of his coaching the Alberta Men’s Volleyball team to a gold medal sweep at the Canada Games in Sherbrooke Quebec.
Lauzon became Principal of Sexsmith Secondary School this year, and his professional and family commitments are steadily becoming more demanding.
“This has been a difficult decision,” says Lauzon. “We have built up a strong team, with many local players, and I have greatly enjoyed working with them.”
“It has been enjoyable working with Mike as he has taken an active interest in producing local talent,” says François Fournier, Athletic Director. “Mike has been involved with the Wolves Volleyball Club on the boys side and has worked with other coaches developing them for higher levels of competition at the club and college level. We will miss him.”
Lauzon is looking forward to contributing his expertise to the programs at Sexsmith Secondary School. He will help with the schools volleyball program anywhere needed from grade 7-12. He also hopes to begin a girl’s rugby program this spring.
“I don’t think I will ever stop coaching completely,” stated Lauzon. “It is just time to return to a developmental role that will afford me more time with my family and a greater focus on my career.”
