Canadian pianist and University of Alberta music professor Milton Schlosser returns to Grande Prairie next week to perform a solo piano recital as guest artist at Grande Prairie Regional College. He is here to provide master classes for GPRC Fine Arts students, and the College is delighted to also host this recital which is open to the public.
Milton has performed and provided master classes for GPRC twice in the last few years and is a supporter of the Music program at GPRC. He has enjoyed teaching the students from GPRC who have transferred to the BMUS program at UAlberta's Augustana Campus in Camrose.
A noted pianist and award-winning professor, Milton will perform a provocative, wide-ranging program that features piano works by Beethoven, Debussy, Alexander Skyrabin, and Frederic Rzewski. As well, he plays one of his own works entitled "Blue Virgin," a piece inspired by France's Chartres Cathedral and based on a blues-infused rendering of the hymn "Praise to the Lord."
“Be prepared to be surprised.” Schlosser says. “You will encounter a range of styles, from Viennese classical and French impressionism to folk songs, protest songs, and even a reference to country music!” The recital is part of a five-city tour that begins in Grande Prairie and ends in Honolulu on Valentine’s Day.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for music lovers in Grande Prairie,” says John Murray, Chair of the Fine Arts department at GPRC. “Our Visitor in the Arts program is one designed for the enrichment of our students, and we are delighted that we can share this noted artist with our community.”
