News Archives: Double ACAC Honours For Mirelle Martens

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) yesterday announced that Mirelle Martens of the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves has been selected as the 2014-15 ACAC Women’s Runner of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Mirelle is the ACAC XC Gold medalist for 2014. She completed a perfect ACAC season finishing first among college runners in all four of her Grand Prix races this year which also earned her first in the Grand Prix series.
Mirelle is a first-year student in the Bachelor of Physical Education program and also a member of the GPRC 2014 bronze medalist soccer team. She graduated from St. Josephs Composite in Grande Prairie where she was a multisport athlete competing in XC, track and Volleyball while playing with the Wolves Soccer Club.
Mirelle is a three-time Alberta High School Champion; in XC (2013) and outdoor track 3000m (2013, 2014). She is the reigning Athletics Alberta Champion in the outdoor 3000m. In March 2014, she won three gold medals in snowshoeing at the Arctic Winter Games in Alaska.
Now celebrating its 50th year, the ACAC is the governing body for intercollegiate athletics in Alberta. Its mission is to foster the development of the student athlete through the administration and promotion of intercollegiate athletics as part of the educational experience and provide a leadership role in the development of sport in Alberta.
