GPRC Hires New Men’s Basketball Coach
April 24 2014
For Immediate Release
GPRC Wolves Athletics is pleased to welcome Jonathan Verhesen to the 2014 – 15 coaching staff. Mr. Verhesen will be the GPRC Wolves Men’s Basketball Coach replacing Chris Nicol who will be on sabbatical.
Verhesen has been working with the University of Alberta Men’s Basketball Program, one of the best programs in the CIS, since 2008. During this time he was fortunate to work with coaches Don Horwood, Greg Francis and current head coach Barnaby Craddock. His duties ranged from recruiting student-athletes to season planning to working with the individual athletes.
“I am excited to accept the head coach position with the GPRC Wolves,” noted Verhesen. “The players are positive, have a strong work ethic and want to win. This was critical for me in making my decision.”
Verhesen has been coaching basketball since 2004. He has coached at the Senior High School level and with a number of Basketball Alberta’s Provincial Teams. He is an instructor with the Basketball Alberta Centre for Performance North and the National Basketball Academy. He has taught Basketball classes at the University of Alberta and is the current President of the University of Alberta Junior Bears Basketball Club.
His experience and diversity will be a natural fit to the GPRC Wolves Basketball Program.
