News Archives: Wolves Host ACAC Volleyball Championship
Wednesday, February 5th, 2014
The GPRC community is proud to host the Ernie’s Sports Experts ACAC Women’s Volleyball Championships February 21 - 23, 2014, welcoming the best of Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) women’s volleyball teams as they compete for the right to represent the Conference at Nationals next month.
Eight very strong teams will battle it out in the GPRC Gymnasium, and the winners will head to Nationals at Seneca College in Toronto, March 5-8, 2014 .
“These Championships are an exciting way to showcase our College as well as the calibre of our volleyball program” says François Fournier, GPRC Athletic Director. “The Wolves are one of the best teams in the conference. We know we have very talented players and we will cheer them on as they vie for the right to attend the CCAA Nationals in Toronto.”
The teams for the Championship have not been finalized, however GPRC Wolves (currently ranked 2nd in the conference and 7th nationally) have a guaranteed spot in the competition. “The girls are practicing hard to impress their community and bring home a gold medal” said John Slauenwhite, GPRC Wolves Women’s Volleyball Head Coach, adding that “they are a well-oiled machine, dedicated and determined to win on their home soil.”
Grande Prairie has long been a strong volleyball community, known for development of its young players. Each year the GPRC Wolves Volleyball Club program generates scores of college-bound athletes, and hosting these Championships provides a great opportunity for young players and the community to see the level at which GPRC athletes compete.
“We are very proud of the accomplishments of our GPRC Wolves athletes, and of the positive role models they are to the youth of our region,” says Don Gnatiuk, GPRC President and CEO. “The GPRC Women’s Volleyball team has worked very hard this year, and we hope the stands will fill with fans to help support their bid for the Championship. Thank you To Ernie’s Sports Experts for sponsoring ACAC Volleyball Championships at GPRC, and bringing this opportunity to our community.”
