News Archives: eCampusAlberta celebrates a decade of online learning

Calgary, AB (November 28, 2012) " Today marks the tenth anniversary for eCampusAlberta. Founded in 2002 as a consortium of member post-secondary institutions to increase access to online learning for Albertans, eCampusAlberta has now grown to 16 post-secondary institutions offering over 70 accredited programs and 800 courses online. Tenth anniversary celebrations will be taking place today online and on-campus at each member institution across the province, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Each member institution will celebrate together via webcast. The Honourable Stephen Khan, Minister of Enterprise and Advanced Education, will join the webcast at 3:15 p.m. “Congratulations to eCampusAlberta as it celebrates a decade of leadership and innovation in providing Albertans with access to online learning,” said Stephen Khan, Minister of Enterprise and Advanced Education. “Thanks to eCampusAlberta, more Albertans are able to access a wide variety of post-secondary education options, no matter where they live. I look forward to working together as we continue to expand access to quality online learning opportunities that meet the needs of students, industry and labour market demands.” Albertans have embraced the quality, flexibility and convenience of online education more than ever as demonstrated by the huge growth in registration numbers. eCampusAlberta recorded 18,451 course registrations during the 2011/12 academic year, an increase of 11 per cent over the prior year. eCampusAlberta and its member institutions has experienced double-digit growth in registrations each year since inception and supported over 76,332 course registrations to date. “I am very excited that we are celebrating ten years of eCampusAlberta. Across our member institutions, we are committed to working together to ensure Albertans in every community of this province have access to post-secondary learning,” said Sharon Carry, eCampusAlberta Board Chair, President and CEO of Bow Valley College. Media are invited to attend the celebration from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the nearest eCampusAlberta member institution. eCampusAlberta is a consortium of 16 Alberta post-secondary institutions (11 colleges, three universities, and two polytechnics) that was established in 2002 to facilitate greater access to high quality online learning opportunities. The organization enables students from across the province to access more than 70 accredited online certificate, diploma and applied degree programs and 800 individual courses offered by the member institutes.
