The GPRC building will benefit from $2.6 million in upgrades to heating, ventilation and air conditioning, thanks to additional funding announced today by the Alberta government. MLAs Wayne Drysdale and the Honourable Mel Knight were present at a GPRC news conference to make the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Greg Weadick, Minister of Advanced Education and Technology. “Your government is listening to post-secondary institutions and working hard to address capital maintenance and renewal projects in their facilities and on their campuses,” said MLA Drysdale. “I am pleased to inform you that Grande Prairie Regional College is receiving $2.6 million for needed upgrades. This funding is above and beyond the $1.9 million the institution has received in basic maintenance funding. Ensuring our students can access functional, safe and comfortable institutions so they can fulfill their educational goals and dreams is a priority for this government.” GPRC is currently busy with several maintenance and renewal projects over the coming months, and will be able to fast-track some needed upgrades due to this announcement. “We are very pleased that the government has been so responsive to the needs of our institution,” said Susan Bansgrove, Vice-President Academics and Research, who received the announcement on behalf of the College. “This funding gives us the opportunity to complete some important upgrade projects and thus to ensure a safe, comfortable and fully functional environment for our students upon their return in the fall.” The monies will be used for projects preserving and protecting the landmark Cardinal building on the Grande Prairie campus, including upgrades to some of the original water systems, and improvements to the crawl space. -30-
