News Archives: Sellout Classic Features New Auction Options
Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Sellout of the 144 golf tournament spaces comes earlier each year for the annual College Classic presented by Canadian Tire. This year, eager golfers filled available spots soon after the save-the-date message was circulated, and lined up on the waiting list. This enthusiasm was noted by sponsor Q99, and the organizing committee has agreed to provide two golf spots for on-air auction, expanding the opportunity for participation. The on-air auction will also include the option for advance bidding on a three-month static or digital Pattison billboard with graphic. The highest on-air bidder will be provided with tickets to the Classic banquet, where they will have the opportunity to continue bidding during the live auction. Brody Thomson, Chair of the organizing committee for the event, is enthusiastic about the response from participants, and the potential to raise funds to support the modernization of eight pilot classrooms, setting a new standard for innovation and technology in a learning environment, and paving the way for the future. The committee hopes to surpass the $82,000 total funds raised by the Classic in 2010. “The Classic tournament is much more than just a great day on the golf course,” says Thomson. “We start the event with a Classic tailgate party hosted by Chrenek Dion & Associates and the Canadiana Home hole-in-one shootout, and close the day with an awards banquet and an exciting auction. This year we have some of the best auction items the Classic has seen!” Among the items which will be presented by auctioneer Kevin Tink are an original stone fountain, a kayaking package, and custom cement poker table. Trip packages include tickets to the world-renowned Barrett Jackson collector car auction in Las Vegas Sept 22 - 24 complete with accommodation at Planet Hollywood Towers , and a Labour Day weekend trip to New York with airfare, accommodations, tickets to the Yankees game, and a top Broadway show. “We are very grateful for the generosity of our title sponsor Canadian Tire and our major sponsors ATB and Servus Credit Union,” says Thomson. “Their significant levels of support ensure our ability to reach the fundraising goals of this event. As well, there are numerous hole sponsors, activity sponsors, cash contributions, and gift-in-kind donations from businesses throughout the community for our event. Thank you to everyone for this support of our efforts on behalf of students at GPRC.” The 24th annual College Classic, presented by Canadian Tire, will be held at Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club on Friday, June 3, 2011.
