Grande Prairie Regional College is very pleased to announce that Ms. Laurie L. Sutherland has accepted the position of Vice-President, Administration, effective February 28, 2011. In this position she will be the chief financial, strategic and administrative officer for the College, responsible for all financial matters, campus operations, information technology and services. Sutherland replaces retiring incumbent, Ken Riley. Ms. Sutherland brings more than 12 years of financial and planning experience to the position, including eight years in the Health sector with regional and provincial responsibilities. Her qualifications include a CMA designation and a Bachelor of Commerce degree attained on campus at GPRC through the Athabasca University collaborative program. “We know that Laurie will be a great addition to our executive team at GPRC,” says Don Gnatiuk, President and CEO. “Her strong financial and leadership experience, and her meaningful knowledge of our community and our government processes make her well qualified to assume this position. We are delighted that she is an alumna of our College and of our degree collaboration with Athabasca University.” Ms. Sutherland is a long-time resident of our region, currently residing in Grande Prairie. She has been a leader in finance and integrated planning and budget management at legacy Peace Country Health. She has been responsible for leading business advisory services for Alberta Health Services at the QEII and Northern Lights Regional Hospital (Fort McMurray) as well as for Provincial Addictions and Mental Health Strategy. She and her family are strong supporters of Peace Area Riding for the Disabled Society (PARDS) and Nitehawk Ski Team. “I am looking forward to being part of the GPRC leadership team,” says Sutherland. “I believe that my experience in health, knowledge of local and provincial players and processes, and first-hand knowledge of the College will be an asset. I have a strong commitment and deep passion to serve our community and region, and I intend to bring that to my role as Vice-President Administration of GPRC.” The GPRC community warmly welcomes Laurie Sutherland to the Executive Team.
