GPRC Launches Workforce Advisory Council.
GRANDE PRAIRIE – Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) is pleased to announce the formation of its new Workforce Advisory Council. The Council will advise the College on its work to strengthen connectivity with industry, and improve the integration of skills development in thriving and emerging sectors within GPRC’s stewardship region. The Council will be informed by GPRC’s strategic priorities, and recommendations put forward from the Alberta Colleges’ Economic Recovery Task Force and the Alberta 2030: Building Skills for Jobs Report.
Led by newly appointed Council Chair Dennis Landis, President and CEO of PrairieCoast Equipment, the 20-member Council will be comprised of entrepreneurs, business owners, and employers representing a broad cross-section of industries in Alberta.
“The Peace Country has been an amazing place for business opportunity. Historically, one of our biggest challenges has been a shortage of skilled employees to match these opportunities,” said Dennis Landis, Chair of the Workforce Advisory Council. “I believe that this Workforce Advisory Council will make a difference in helping GPRC prepare, train and offer the skills required for our changing work force. The members that have been asked to join this council are leaders in their industry and will bring insight and game changing ideas.”
As the centre of excellence for post-secondary education in northern Alberta, GPRC promotes meaningful work-integrated learning opportunities that create pathways to employment, implements innovative approaches to identify future trends in the workforce, and identifies research and innovation partnerships that attract investment in the region.
“The creation of the Workforce Advisory Council is an essential next step for GPRC to support the regional and provincial economic recovery. Through the work of the Council, GPRC will develop greater alignment of its programs and courses by identifying the workforce needs of the region, and producing a career ready workforce,” said Dr. Robert Murray, President and CEO of Grande Prairie Regional College.
