News Archives: GPRC Stands in Solidarity Against Racism
Tuesday, June 2nd, 2020
To our Grande Prairie Regional College community,
I want to recognize and acknowledge the distress, anger and fears shared by members of our GPRC community, including students, faculty, and staff regarding recent unsettling events in North America and across the world. I am deeply saddened to read of those who have suffered and lost their lives due to a society still plagued by racism and discrimination.
If you are needing support at this time, I want you to know GPRC is here for you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our Mental Health Services department for assistance. Any GPRC employee seeking support right now, please reach out to Human Resources and access 24/7 support through the HumanaCare Employee and Family Assistance Program.
As a College, and as individuals, we must continue the important and necessary work to stand against racism and prejudice in all its forms, and to confront injustice where we see it.
I want to be clear in saying that GPRC does not condone racism or prejudice of any kind, and stands with communities in demanding justice and equality for racialized members of our society. We as a College are conscious of our role as a place of learning and educating the next generation of learners. GPRC is committed to uplifting people as a whole and we want to reaffirm our commitment to our College values – Respect, Integrity, Accountability, Passion, Innovation and Student Centred. We are deeply committed to being an inclusive, supportive and welcoming community.
Diversity is fundamental to GPRC’s success in creating excellent education opportunities for all communities we serve. Inclusion is central to the well-being and strength of our College. We are a unique and supportive collective where each of our community members enrich our College. We are proud to welcome all people as part of our GPRC community – today and always.
GPRC is committed to doing its part to close the gap of inequity. We must and will do better for our community.
Sincerely,
Dr. Robert Murray
President and CEO
