Wednesday, February 19th, 2020
Name: Lydia Steinke
Hometown: Grande Prairie, Alberta
High School: Peace Wapiti Academy
At what age did you start playing your sport? What drew you to the game? I competed in my first track meet in Grade 8 after my gym teacher signed me up for the 3000m race. I competed well and began focusing on running shortly after when I joined the Peace Country Wolves Athletic Club.
What is your fondest memory of your sport? There are a lot, but I would have to say my most recent one is hosting nationals in Grande Prairie this past cross-country season.
Any pre or post-game rituals that you would be willing to share? How do you prepare? I always allow myself plenty of time for warming up and feeling out the track. Post-race rituals include reaching for my water and snacks.
What are your future goals? I hope to run for the College for years to come and to start competing in longer runs. I have my first half marathon coming up in June.
From Head Coach Fabio Minozzo:
Any special game moments, stats you’d like to share? Lydia is a very dedicated and constant type of athlete. I was happy with her capacity to keep the pace in the last few meets.
What does this player bring to the dynamics of the team? Hard work, discipline, and dedication build not only an athlete but actually a great human being, and Lydia unites all these qualities.
