News Archives: GPRC Choir to perform at Carnegie Hall
Tuesday, October 23rd, 2018
GRANDE PRAIRIE – MacKenzie Lowen, a second-year Bachelor of Music student at GPRC, will get a chance that few aspiring singers ever get to experience.
She, along with the rest of the GPRC Concert Choir, is getting the once-in-a-lifetime chance to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York this fall.
Lowen has lived in Grande Prairie for the past four years. When she decided to return to school after seven years away to pursue her Music degree, she never imagined she would get to go to New York and sing at Carnegie Hall.
“I had no idea I’d get such an experience,” she said. “Not only will it be an incredible opportunity to represent our college, but we’re going to get to represent Grande Prairie and Canada at Carnegie Hall.”
Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) extended an invitation to the choir led by GPRC Fine Arts instructor Tina Alexander-Luna to participate in a performance of Handel’s Messiah on the DCINY Concert Series in New York City. The performance in Isaac Stem Auditorium at Carnegie Hall will take place on Sunday, November 25, 2018.
GPRC Concert Choir is giving the community a chance to share in their upcoming experience with their fundraising event, “Manhattan Moonlight: An Evening in New York.” Community members can support the choir going to represent the region on Friday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m. to midnight at the west side Jeffrey’s. Proceeds will help cover expenses associated with the trip.
“It will be an evening full of food, refreshments and live entertainment all to support GPRC students and the community members getting a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Lowen.
Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at the Fine Arts department office in L212 or by calling 780-539-2443.
