Farewell Doug!

As many of you know, we are bidding farewell to a member of the GPRC community - Mr. Doug Hart.  Doug was appointed Vice President, Academic of Grande Prairie Regional College in the summer of 2001, bringing to our community his notable educational, professional, and personal attributes.

Doug has spent over 25 years in post-secondary teaching and administration. Prior to his appointment at GPRC, he served Red Deer College as Nursing Instructor, as Dean of Program Development, and as Vice President, Education.  He holds a Masters Degree in Educational Administration, Masters Degree in Science (Health Promotion Studies),  a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, a Registered Nursing Diploma, and a Psychiatric Nursing Diploma.

In his years at GPRC Doug has negotiated collective agreements with the Academic Staff Association, was involved in the development of the new structure which established three Deans positions, and has worked tirelessly in the development of new programs at GPRC.  Most recently, he has spearheaded the facility expansion planning for the College.

Everyone is invited to bid farewell to Doug on Thursday, August 21st at 2:30 in the Alumni Lounge.

Welcome!

Insider and GPRC extend a warm welcome to new faculty and staff who have joined us for the 2008-2009 academic year.  It may take some time before faces and names make the connection but none-the-less, we would like to welcome you to the GPRC community.

A great time to facilitate the name-to-face connection is at GPRC's annual College Community Barbecue, hosted by the President's Office, on Thursday, August 28th in the Theatre Concourse & Courtyard.  The Students' Association's liquid lounge opens at 4:00 pm, introductions are at 5:00 and the feasting starts at 5:45. Don't forget to contact the President's Office in Room E201 for tickets in advance.  Spouses and significant others are welcome to attend as well.

What's Going On?

You may notice that construction has started for Student Residence Phase V east of Anderson Hall.  The $4.3 million in funding for the Residence is in place and construction is expected to be completed by January 2010.

It's a Family Affair

You will often hear the term "GPRC family" in reference to the environment that exists between staff and faculty at GPRC.  There are also many families within the GPRC family.  A great example of this is the Kimpe Family. Pat Kimpe from Student Services and her daughter Kristine Kimpe in Finance both received long term service recognition at this year's Employee Recognition Ceremony & Luncheon.

In addition to these two "keeping it in the family", Karmen Patrick in Duplicating Services is also one of Pat's daughters (and Kristine's sister). Both Pat and her husband are GPRC alumni and all four of the Kimpe children have been GPRC students at one time or another!
