Speakers Series - Dr. Don Page, Physicist - The Theory of Everything
The GPRC Speakers Series presents Dr. Don Page, Faculty of Physics, University of Alberta speaking about theories of the universe and quantum cosmology.
Thursday, March 29, 2007
7:30 pm Room D208
Free Public Presentation - Everyone welcome to attend.
Humans since the dawn of time have wondered about the nature of the universe. Professor Don Page, internationally renowned theoretical physicist and former student and professional colleague of Stephen Hawking (A Brief History of Time), will speak on the greatest intellectual challenge of the 21st century. For a hundred years physicists and cosmologists have tried to reconcile Einstein's General Theory of Relativity with Max Planck's Theory of Quantum Mechanics; the first describing the infinitely large, the second the infinitely small. Dr. Page will help us understand how new approaches, including String Theory, may be bringing them closer.
The Edmonton Journal noted that Don Page believes in the elegance of mathematics, in physics and its descriptions of the universe. He also is a devout Christian, challenging the commonly held belief that science and religion are mutually exclusive.
