First-hand Account of Red Cross Tsunami Relief Effort
Bringing a first-hand account of Red Cross activities for the Asian tsunami relief effort, Jean-Pierre Taschereau will be the guest of GPRC Speakers Series. Taschereau has just returned from Indonesia where he was Manager of Air Operations for the International Federation of the Red Cross following the recent tsunami, and is now in high demand as a speaker across the country. He will share his observations and experiences in a free public presentation on Thursday, February 17 at 7:30 pm in room A213.
Taschereau is the Manager of Disaster and International Services for the Canadian Red Cross in Western Canada. His current responsibilities include the dissemination of international humanitarian law in Canada and international disaster and conflict response.
He has been a Canadian Red Cross overseas delegate for over five years, and a volunteer since 1991. He has been seconded to the American Red Cross in Louisiana and Puerto Rico, to the International Federation in Guatemala and Nicaragua and to the ICRC in Mexico, Indonesia and Columbia.
Jean-Pierre Taschereau has a Masterís degree in International relations and a BA in political science from the University of Laval in Quebec. His Masterís thesis focused on globalization and armed conflicts.
