Mr. Chris Nicol: B.Ed (PE), M.Sc, NCCP III Chairperson: PEAK Department
Chris serves as both the Chairperson and an Instructor for the Physical Education and Kinesiology Department at Grande Prairie Regional College. He holds a Bachelor of Education(PE) Degree from the University of Alberta and a Master’s Degree in Sport Science through the University of Queensland.
Prior to coming to GPRC in the fall of 2002, Chris was a secondary school teacher for eighteen years. He taught PE and SS, served as Athletic Director, PE Dept. Head and coached basketball, cross-country, track & field, among other things.
Affectionately known to many as “Coach”, Chris has worked with athletes for over 35 years. A former ACAC Coach of the Year, Chris spent fifteen years as a head basketball coach in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. He is certified at Level III in Canada’s National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). "Coach" has conducted clinics in Canada, the USA, Scotland, Trinidad, Tobago and Dominica. He has presented on numerous occasions at both the Alberta Health and Physical Education Conference (HPEC) and the ASAA High School Basketball Championships.
Chirs is a fitness enthusiast, an avid cyclist, a passionate outdoorsman and a frequent kilt wearer. He has been happily married to his wife Aum for 30 years. The couple have two wonderful children.
