Taking the Office Administration Intensive program was one of the best choices I've ever made. The professors were so knowledgeable, helpful, and were so interested in seeing each and every one of their students succeed! A great educational experience! Now, only 4 months after receiving my diploma, I have been given the opportunity to work in an environment where I am able to use the skills that I have learned (Office Assistant, Registrar's Office, Grande Prairie Regional College). What they say is really true..."Office Administration students get Jobs!" A recommendable program to everyone.

Coming to Canada from Poland was a big step in my life, as well as a drastic change. I was aware that it will be so difficult to find that suitable place regarding my future job. The decision to enroll into an Office Administration Program was the most valuable decision that I would make in my life. The beginning of my first semester was extremely stressful to me, because English is my second language. However, my concerns were not necessary. The instructors turned out to be just wonderful, supportive, understanding, knowledgeable people and they understood my struggling with English. They always greeted us with a warm and genuine smile on their faces and helped us to achieve our goals. The atmosphere in the Department of Office Administration is friendly and welcoming, which really helps to get accustomed immediately. The program provided me with all the knowledge, skills, and confidence essential to completely succeed in the computerized work environment. At the present time I work at the GPRC as a Department Assistant for Faculty of Arts & Education and Science. I absolutely love my job, my coworkers and instructors that I work with.
Intensive Diploma, 2006
My experience in the Department of Office Administration has been life changing and overwhelmingly positive. I transferred to the AT Department from the Faculty of Arts. I wanted to find a program within the college that would allow me to complete my education locally, and with which I would gain employability skills which were in demand. The Department of Office Administration provided me with both! Even before I graduated with a double major as a Legal Secretary and Microsoft Office Specialist, I was employed! Currently I work for the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, and love my job!
The culture of the department is like no other in the College, and I have often referred to the AT Department as the gem of the College! The faculty is extremely dedicated, and they strive to promote community involvement and volunteerism. Ultimately this translates into networking opportunities for the students of the department, and provides students with the opportunity to expand their resumes. I cannot say enough about the wonderful faculty and staff of this department!
I really enjoyed my experience as an AT student. The skills I have gained in my education have provided me with a spectacular job and the flexibility to pursue an even higher level of education. A diploma in Office Administration is a bankable education, which has translated into successful careers for many graduates. I am very proud to be a graduate of such a renowned program, and I strongly encourage perspective students to consider the Department of Administrative Technology!
Education is a life long process; never stop striving to achieve your goals.

"The Office Administration Program gave me the skills I needed to excel in the Administrative field. By majoring in both E-commerce and Computerized Office Professional, my choices for employment were widened greatly. E-commerce gave me the ability to design and build web pages for commercial uses. Programming languages included XML, XHTML, Java-Script, ASP and CSS. These languages are necessary for web design technology. I have also been able to start up my own business in web design, which I now do out of my home. Since I love to design, this program gave me fantastic opportunities.
The Computerized Office Professional major gave me the Administrative skills I was interested in achieving. As a result of this major, I gained employment at Grande Prairie Regional College as a receptionist-registration assistant in Work Force Development. Having my Microsoft Certification in Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint definitely gave me an edge over the competition - and there was a lot of competition!
As for the instructors in the program, I could never say enough good things about them. They were always there to help, answer my questions and offer encouragement. I was very sad to leave, I felt like I was losing a family! But I still visit often.
I would like to recommend this program to all who are interested in it. Office Administration gave me the skills to advance my career more than any other action I could have taken - and I love the work I do! I not only gained the technical skills I needed to compete with other Administrative personnel - I also gained confidence and a positive attitude. Many thanks to all of the Office Administration staff and faculty for working so hard to aid in their student's success."

Microsoft Certified in Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint 2000
After being out of school for 6 years, the idea of returning after an absence was terrifying. The instructors in Office Administration turned that terrified feeling into excitement with all their tremendous support and encouragement. It is a competitive and challenging workplace out there and Office Administration gave me the skills and knowledge I needed to compete effectively.
By completing a double major in Microcomputer Office Specialist and Legal Office Secretary, as well as attaining my Microsoft Certification in Word and Access, my employability greatly increased....which served true when I applied for the position as Office Assistant in Student Services and got the job! (There was fierce competition too---other Office Administration graduates!!) My supervisor is also an Office Administration graduate who shares my enthusiasm about this great program. I can honestly say now....I Love My Job!
If you want a program that is exciting, fun, has dedicated instructors and helps you achieve the skills you need to advance in the workplace, Office Administration is the program for you.

I always say that education is the most important thing that a person can have. Learning is a life long process.
I am very happy to be able to say that I graduated from Grande Prairie Regional College. I have my Intensive Diploma in Administrative Technology. Once I got home to Fort McPherson in the Northwest Territories, I got a job with the Gwich'in Land and Water Board in Inuvik. This was filling in for the Office Manager for one month. I worked there for 4 days when I was offered a job at the Northwest Territories Power Corporation as Administrative Assistant and Accounts Payable clerk. It is a good paying job and has excellent benefits. I am so happy to be working with the people I know and grew up with.
I say "Education is for you...go for it"

The Microcomputer Office Specialization gave me the skills I needed to gain work in an office environment as a result with my portfolio, I got a job at Assertive Collections in Grande Prairie as an Office Assistant. In September, 2004, after receiving my Diploma, I returned to the College to take the E-Commerce Specialization. This major will give me the ability to design and build web pages. I returned to College as a mature student enrolled in the Computerized Accounting program offered by the Department of Office Administration. As a mature student, I worried that I might struggle with course work since I had been away from school so long. There were also major concerns about whether the courses provided would make me any more employable.
The instructor's patience and flexibility dealt with these issues in their course instructions and facilitation. The Department of Office Administration not only provided excellent instruction through courses and practicals to meet market and industry needs, but equally important, the people and personal development skills.

I started my career with Crestar Energy at the Wembley Gas Plant as an Office Administrator in December, 1999. In March, 2001, I transferred to our head office in Calgary, where I worked as a Completions Technician. I then enrolled in the CAPPA (Canadian Association of Petroleum Production Accountants) program, with the purpose of working in the field of production accounting. After several years with Conoco Philips in Calgary, my husband and I accepted jobs with the company in Quatar, a middle eastern country on the peninsula bordering the Persian Gulf and Saudi Arabia.
My job encompasses a wide variety of responsibilities. Most importantly, I am in charge of gathering technical information to prepare completion programs. We must also submit completion information to the AEUB within deadlines. Other tasks include tracking cost estimates, updating safety requirements, partner distribution and general office duties.
I took the two-year diploma Office Administration program and majored in the Computerized Office Professional specialization. This program provided me with skills that helped me get started in my career and now keep me growing in the industry. Through the Office Administration program, I learned computer skills that keep me efficient and up-to-date in an ever-changing environment. The OA program also helped develop my social and human relations skills that are so important when working with many different people. I learned proper work ethics, and I obtained the ability and the desire for life-long learning.
