Office Administration students, staff and faculty have taken part in many and varied projects over the years. Following are some of the projects we have been involved in.
THE STOCK DOG TRIALS
Yes, you read right, we actually ran the Stock Dog Trials in August, 1996. The idea was to generate some funds to provide seed money for a bursary for our students. Stock Dog Trials are run each year and involve border collie dogs, and zillions of sheep. The dogs are highly trained to seek out, separate and pen sheep merely on the whistled command of their owner. Thrilling to watch, but mind-boggling for a group of female students and instructors to organize and host. A learning experience for everyone involved. Past and present students volunteered for duty, and we had a hilarious time. We did make money, but did not offer to host the trials again!
THE PRAIRIE GALLERY
In 2000, our word processing students designed and produced promotional brochures for the Prairie Gallery cookbook, as well as inputting much of the material contained in the cookbook.
The Rotary International Youth Organization held its annual Youth Conference here in Grande Prairie, based in our College. In preparation for the event, our students designed the letterhead used by the conference, designed and constructed the webpage with fill-in form to allow participants to register on-line. The students collected the registrations in a database and processed them.
THE CANADIAN CANCER SOCIETY
Students in the Internet Technolgies class used their Internet research assignment as an opportunity to produce a very useful assignment. They researched over 35 types of cancer, accessed hundreds of websites and produced valuable materials that outlined the types of cancer, the known treatments, clinical trials, and new research. These materials were collected in several binders and presented to the local cancer support group as a much-needed resource.
THE CCAA AEC NATIONAL MEN'S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Grande Prairie Regional College hosted the CCAA Men's Nationals in 1998, 1999 and 2000. Teams from all over Canada represented their various leagues, and our staff and students volunteered hundreds of hours of help. We provided administrative support, as well as physical support during the games. Students were able to perform various administrative and clerical duties as part of a class project, each fulfilling a set number of hours of volunteer time. The experience provided practical experience in an exciting environment.
THE CANADA WINTER GAMES
February, 1995 was an exciting time in Grande Prairie. The city hosted the Canada Winter Games and Office Administration was on hand. We provided clerical support for the Chefs de Mission's Offices based here at the College. Each province and territory had it's own office, fully functional, including office equipment such as computers, faxes and telephones. As well, our students provided almost 24-hour clerical support. This project was huge, and our students rose to the occasion admirably. They received some on-the-job experience in practical and time-sensitive situations. Many students received mementos from the very appreciative provincial staffs in each office.
THE QE II HOSPITAL FOUNDATION
Our students volunteered time and also gained valuable experience by helping the Foundation set up and present the Festival of Trees, an annual fund-raising event in Grande Prairie. They prepared brochures and signage for the displays, and provided administrative and clerical support for the event.
THE CITY OF GRANDE PRAIRIE
In 2000, our students provided support for the City of Grande Prairie Community Foundation by designing and producing brochures to add to their promotional materials.

The students gain valuable and practical experience in their newly-acquired skills, and the community profits from the expertise demonstrated by our students.
