Department of Office Administration - Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)
Microsoft Office Specialists are a part of a global community of distinguished achievers. This Microsoft certification credential tells the world you have demonstrated proficiency in the newest standard of the world's foremost desktop computing applications. Microsoft certifications (based on globally recognized standards) demonstrate your computing skills and help advance your career prospects in a competitive job market.
Microsoft Office Specialist certifications are primarily for office workers who use Microsoft Office programs as a vital part of their job functions. These certifications cover the entire Microsoft Office Suite, encompassing: Word 2010, PowerPoint 2010, Excel 2010, Outlook 2010 and Access 2010, as well as Windows 7.
The MOS exams are not written tests. Instead, they feature real-world assignments based on the way you actually use your computer. Using an actual document, for example, you will be asked to perform a series of tasks that clearly demonstrate your desktop computing skills. There are separate tests for each of MS Office Suite's applications including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook as well as Windows 7 for the Business Worker. Click here to review the exam objectives for each of these applications.
A Microsoft Office Specialist Certificate is the reward for passing the MOS tests. It is a valuable credential recognized worldwide as proof that you've got the desktop computing skills you need to work more productively and more efficiently than many of your peers. Employers are recognizing the value of this Certification and are waiving computer testing during the interview process when a candidate can present the MOS Certification. As well, some employers are sending their final candidates to our Microsoft Testing Center for MOS testing before making their final selections.
The Department of Office Administration at GPRC is pleased to be able to offer MOS Certification through its on-site testing center. It is the only testing center of its kind north of Edmonton and is the most northerly MOS testing center in North America. Students who have completed the OA Certificate, Diploma or Intensive Diploma are encouraged to write the MOS tests at the completion of their studies, thereby obtaining additional, valuable credentials.
The MOS certification is a permanent credential, and it does not expire. The testing center is located in the Department of Office Administration wing ("A" wing) Room A313b of Grande Prairie Regional College.
