A degree in Social Work prepares students with the knowledge and skills necessary for generalist social work practice. This includes such diverse settings as schools, hospitals, treatment facilities, corrections, planning councils, family and youth service agencies, and long term care centres. Social workers are licensed by the Alberta College of Social Workers.
You can apply to GPRC for the first two years (60 credits) of course work, which is selected from a broad liberal arts and social sciences background. SW2010 Introduction to Social Work is highly recommended.
Grande Prairie Regional College is a host site for the delivery of the accredited Bachelor of Social Work Degree program through the University of Calgary's Learning Circles. As a third and fourth-year student, you can apply to the University of Calgary to complete this degree program on-site at GPRC.
