Steve Burgess Memorial Race Registration Open

The GPRC Wolves X-Country running team, is pleased to host the 2017 Steve Burgess Memorial cross-country running race. The race honors the memory of Steve Burgess, a true friend of the local running and cross-country skiing communities, who passed away in 2001.

We are proud to be a part of the 2017 New Balance XC series, and to be Race #3 in the 2017 ACAC X-C Grand Prix Series which brings elite collegiate runners from across the province to the Peace Country.

The race will be held at the Wapiti Nordic Ski and is open to all ages and abilities. The course starts and finishes at the Biathlon stadium, and navigates a number of x-country skiing trails and challenging hills, encompassing dirt, sand, and forest trails which is suitable for spikes or flats.

The second most famous Wolves runner ever to come out of Eaglesham SchoolBrittany Duvall enters her rookie season with the Wolves looking to build upon  a solid high school running career. Duvall was a many-time Zone champion prior to coming to GPRC and a three-time, top 11 finisher at the ASAA Provincial High School XC Running Championships.

So far this season, Brittany has battled a few injuries, but she hopes to be in top shape for the ACAC Provincial XC Running Championships at the Wapiti Nordic Trails on October 29.

Program: Nursing

Christie Shepherd is back for a third season with the XC Wolves and is looking to improve upon her 20th place finish at  last year’s ACAC championship race.  Shepherd is a talented athlete who competes in a variety of endurance-related events including trail running, adventure racing, and triathlon.  Her sunny disposition and optimistic attitude are hallmarks of her personality.

Along with team mate Maria Houle, Shepherd is widely known for being a integral part of the duo “Breeze.”

GPRC Wolves Athletes of the Week: September 26, 2016

Hometown: 
Hythe, AB
High School: 
Beaverlodge High School

A 2016 graduate of Beaverlodge High School, Kailey Bratland enters her rookie season with the Cross Country Wolves with big goals. Bratland recorded a 9th place finish in last year’s Provincial High School Cross Country Championships on the Wolves home course at the Wapiti Nordic ski trails. She hopes for similar success this year as the ACAC Cross Country Championships are again being hosted at Wapiti Nordic.
Hailing from Hythe, AB, Bratland aspires to become the second most famous Wolves runner from that storied town, after Wolves legend Hayden “Sanchez” Hollowell.

Program: Business Administration

After a 13 year hiatus, Andrea Snider resumes her post secondary cross country running career with the 2016-17 Wolves. Snider spent two seasons on the roster of the NCAA Division 1 Dartmouth College prior to coming to GPRC.

In her first ACAC race in Vermilion, Snider led the Wolves by placed 3rd among the college runners. Individually, she is aiming for an all conference selection this fall.
