2018 Coach of the Year Accolade for Ron Thomson

GPRC Wolves and GPRC Sport, Fitness and Wellness is proud to congratulate Ron Thomson on being selected as the 2018 Coach of the Year for Volleyball Alberta in the performance category; female division.

With thirty years of elite coaching experience between the University, Collegiate, National Team, Club and Provincial Team levels, Ron has been coaching and working with athletes of all ages in the sport of volleyball. Ron’s passion and dedication to the game of volleyball combined with his intensity and competitive spirit have produced many amazing teams and athletes over the years.

The 2018 club season results are testament to this passion and dedication as Ron coached the GPRC Wolves U16 Girls who brought home provincial gold in Division 1, rounding up the season with a 5th place finish at Volleyball Canada Nationals in Division 1, Tier 1.

In addition, Ron coached both the GPRC Men’s and Women’s varsity programs for 17 years and over his tenure he was honored with the ACAC Coach of the Year 5 times and the CCAA Coach of the Year twice.  In his current role as the Director of Sport, Fitness and Wellness at GPRC, Ron continues to influence and mentor other coaches with his refined leadership skills, promoting excellence in coach and athlete development.

New Women’s Basketball Recruit!

The GPRC Wolves are pleased to announce the signing of Carly Rombs to the Women’s Basketball program.

Carly, who captained the 2017-18 St. Joes Ceinahs has committed to the 2018-19 season with the Wolves. She chose GPRC because she was not ready to hang up her basketball shoes and saw staying in her hometown as the perfect opportunity to continue to grow and develop as a player. Head Coach Mandy Botham says that Carly will bring relentless defense and competitive drive to the squad and is pleased that she has decided to stay local, and become a Wolf.

GPRC Sport, Fitness and Wellness (SFW) is committed to providing essential programs, education and services to support good health and vitality to our students, staff and the entire community.

Spring has officially sprung!

The spring lineup is here at GPRC SFW and will run from April 23 to June 29; totaling 10-weeks of classes.

Individuals who want to get in on the action can either register for a specific class or purchase a SFW Punch Card at the Fitness Centre for $120 for 10 uses.

Did you know that students who are physically active have lower stress levels and perform better in school? Most students know the benefits of regular exercise, but it can be difficult to keep up a regiment while balancing the demands of school and other commitments. GPRC is making it easy to get active next semester with a range of fun and affordable group fitness classes, where GPRC students enjoy a 75% discount! From Yin Yoga to Spin Class to Chisel Strength and Social Dance classes, Campus Recreation has a class for you.

Kick off the new year right—join one of next semester’s Group Fitness Classes! Registration is now open and you can sign up for a class at the Fitness Centre during all regular business hours. The FC Desk and Weightroom will be open during the holidays in case you happen to be on campus and want to sign up.



Important Notes:

  • Classes start January 8 and run for 14 weeks until April 13
  • GPRC students receive a 75% discount upon registration

GPRC Campus Recreation – Road Hockey Event!

Hello out there, we’re on the air, it’s ‘Hockey Night’ tonight!

OH! The good ol’ Hockey game, is the best game you can name.
And the best game you can name, is the good ol’ Hockey game.

If you love the game of hockey, being outdoors and free food, GPRC Campus Recreation is hosting the perfect event for you.

GPRC Campus Recreation along with Project Leaders from the PEAK Sports Administration Class, are putting together a classic Canadian tradition… an outdoor pick-up road  hockey game and you’re invited! Enjoy a fun afternoon of friendly road hockey on GPRC’s Grande Prairie Campus, a fire to roast hot dogs, complimentary hot chocolate and have the chance to win some awesome GPRC swag.

The goal of this event is to create an outdoor activity event for GPRC students to participate in during the colder fall months.

This outdoor hockey game should run throughout the afternoon of October 26, where those involved will be creating an awareness for the rest of the College and the community that GPRC students are making a real effort to get active, stay healthy and have fun! You may even make some new awesome friends too!

So, grab a hockey stick and join the crowd in an easy-going, recreational shinny game basking in the beautiful fall weather on GPRC Campus. Skates are not needed and beginners are welcomed! Equipment will be provided, but individuals who are able to bring their own hockey sticks if they prefer.

This event is targeted for all of our GPRC students, staff and faculty who just want to come out and have some fun. You can even invite your friends who are a part of the community to join in!
