GPRC Wolves: Recruits to the Women’s 2020-21 Soccer Team

Recruitment has begun for the 2020-21 soccer season. As if coaching two ACAC sports teams isn’t time consuming enough, GPRC Wolves Men and Women’s Soccer Head Coach, Chris Morgan has also been recruiting. Always on the lookout for talented athletes, Morgan says “it’s never too early to start” and is pleased to be adding to the 2020-21 roster.

Starting the recruitment season off is Kasya Miller and Khloe Webber.

As a current member of the Regional Excel Centre of Saskatchewan, Kasya Miller is bringing a ton of great experience to the Wolf pack. The SK REX Program is one of eight Canada Soccer Regional Excel Centres and is a stepping stone into Canada Soccer Women’s EXCEL National Pathway. Hailing from Warman, Saskatchewan, Miller also brought home a Provincial title in 2017 with her high school team.

Miller will be enrolled in our Engineering program at GPRC and is looking forward to starting her academic and athletic journey. “I am excited to come into a new team and play the sport I love. [GPRC] is a small College and it has what I want for academics and athletics.”

Head Coach, Chris Morgan is delighted to welcome Miller to the squad and kick-off the recruitment season.

“Kasya impressed me at a recent ID Camp with her agility and distribution. I am delighted she has chosen GPRC to further her education and represent the Wolves.”

GPRC Wolves Women’s soccer recruit, Khloe Webber signing for the 2020-21 season.

Khloe Webber who hails from Stony Plain, AB. Webber is already looking forward to her first ACAC soccer match. “I am most excited to play in the ACAC, and to experience the team and community support in that first home opener match. I chose GPRC because of the supportive coaching staff and competitive team environment.”

As a member of the Junior Pandas Soccer program since 2016, Webber is bringing a ton of great experience to the Wolves including her team being named the Seattle Sounders FC Cup Champions in 2017 and securing MVP Award in the Victoria Showcase in 2018. Webber also earned the Captain title of her 2018 Victoria U17 team.

Webber will be enrolled in our Bachelor of Education program at GPRC and is looking forward to starting her academic and athletic journey.

In catching up with Head Coach Chris Morgan, he mentions his delight to have Webber join the squad. “Khloe brings a real presence, enthusiasm and hunger to the game. She is a vocal player and is excellent in 1v1 situations. Khloe was so impressive at the College ID camp I attended, I’m looking forward to welcoming her to the pack and working with such a talented player.”

Each week, two GPRC Wolves athletes are selected for their achievements over the weekend on the field, track, or court. We are pleased to congratulate Scott Fraser from the Wolves Men’s Soccer team and Anna van der Giessen from the Wolves Cross Country Running/Indoor Track team as our current Featured Athletes of the Week!

 

Scott Fraser #14

Program: 5th Year, Business Administration
Position: Midfielder
Hometown: Edmonton, Alberta

GPRC Wolves midfielder, Scott Fraser is in his fifth and final year at the College. He has played a key role in the program and mentoring our younger players. Scott has a wand of a left foot and possesses a wonderful first touch complete with a booming shot. He is one of the most naturally gifted athletes in the squad and his love for the game brings the team’s momentum up a notch.

Scott is a popular member of the squad. He is a mature student-athlete and advises the younger athletes of the Wolves way. Thank you to Scott for his dedication to the Wolves.

 

Anna van der Giessen

Program: 2nd Year, Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Hometown: Bezanson, Alberta

With the departure of last year’s Cross Country Running MVP Kelcie Bulas, Anna van der Giessen was tasked with leading the Wolves Women’s Cross Country team this fall. Anna stepped up to the task and was the top GPRC Wolves Women’s runner in every race during the October and November season. The pride of Bezanson, Alberta, Anna looks to score points in Indoor Track for the Wolves in the 600m, the 1000m, and the 4 x 400m relay this semester. Thank you Anna for your dedication to the Wolves program.

Kelly Reid #15

Program: 1st Year, Visual Arts & Design
Position: Guard/Forward
Hometown: St. Albert, Alberta

Hailing from St. Alberta, this is Kelly’s first year running with the Wolves. Kelly is a high energy player coming off the bench for the Wolves. When Kelly is on the court, her competitiveness fuels her to do whatever the team needs from her in that moment. Her physical presence on the boards make her tough to stop. She has the ability to get a stop, score a key basket or grab a crucial rebound whenever we need it.

Michael Shelast #11

Program: 2nd Year, Business Administration
Position: Forward
Hometown: Edmonton, Alberta

Michael is from Edmonton, graduating from Holy Trinity Catholic High School. Michael is enrolled in Business Administration program and works hard in both the classroom and the gymnasium. Michael has been relied upon to come off the bench and play shutdown defense, guarding the opponents giants at the post. Michael had a great past weekend in Edmonton, helping the Wolves sweep the previously undefeated Concordia Thunder.  The Wolves are very pleased to have Michael be a part of the Wolf-pack.

The GPRC Wolves are pleased to announce the signing of two new recruits to the Women’s Basketball program.

Jayden Demchuk

GPRC Wolves Athletics is pleased to announce the commitment of dual sport athlete Jayden Demchuk from F. H. Collins High School in Whitehorse, Yukon Territories. Jayden will play both Soccer and Basketball for the Wolves! In high school Jayden competed in volleyball, track and field, soccer and basketball. She has represented Team Yukon at the Provincial and National levels in Soccer, Basketball and Volleyball. Jayden will be attending her first year of Nursing at GPRC.

Lillian (Lilee) Burke-Stasiuk.

GPRC Wolves Athletics is pleased to announce the commitment of Lillian (Lilee) Burke-Stasiuk to the Wolves basketball team from Edmonton. She attended Arch Bishop MacDonald High School. Lilee was a very highly recruited athlete and she is a pure shooter with incredible range. Lilee is in the TEN program and she wants to become a teacher.

Head Coach Mandy Botham says that she has been so impressed with Lilee and Jayden’s work ethic and incredible competitiveness. They bring significant commitment and passion to our program.

New Recruit for GPRC Wolves XC and Indoor Track team!

The GPRC Wolves are pleased to announce the signing of Brandon Tufford to the Cross Country and Indoor Track program.

Welcome to the pack, Brandon!

With many provincial medals to his credit, Tufford is also a 4-time NW Zone Cross Country Running Champion, as well as the 800m and 1500m NW Zone record holder. He is among the top male high school runners in the province according to Head Coach Rick Scott, adding that he will be a force within the ACAC right from the start of his college career.

Tufford who calls Grande Prairie home, chose GPRC because of its cross-country program and says that it is a great place to start his studies. He looks forward to new teammates, a higher level of competition and developing his skills with great coaching. Pleased with his commitment to the program, Head Coach Bill Corcoran says that Tufford is the best male recruit that the Wolves have gotten since Kyle Reynolds in 2004…when Kyle still had hair!
