GPRC Wolves: Recruits to the Women’s 2020-21 Soccer Team

Recruitment has begun for the 2020-21 soccer season. As if coaching two ACAC sports teams isn’t time consuming enough, GPRC Wolves Men and Women’s Soccer Head Coach, Chris Morgan has also been recruiting. Always on the lookout for talented athletes, Morgan says “it’s never too early to start” and is pleased to be adding to the 2020-21 roster.

Starting the recruitment season off is Kasya Miller and Khloe Webber.

As a current member of the Regional Excel Centre of Saskatchewan, Kasya Miller is bringing a ton of great experience to the Wolf pack. The SK REX Program is one of eight Canada Soccer Regional Excel Centres and is a stepping stone into Canada Soccer Women’s EXCEL National Pathway. Hailing from Warman, Saskatchewan, Miller also brought home a Provincial title in 2017 with her high school team.

Miller will be enrolled in our Engineering program at GPRC and is looking forward to starting her academic and athletic journey. “I am excited to come into a new team and play the sport I love. [GPRC] is a small College and it has what I want for academics and athletics.”

Head Coach, Chris Morgan is delighted to welcome Miller to the squad and kick-off the recruitment season.

“Kasya impressed me at a recent ID Camp with her agility and distribution. I am delighted she has chosen GPRC to further her education and represent the Wolves.”

GPRC Wolves Women’s soccer recruit, Khloe Webber signing for the 2020-21 season.

Khloe Webber who hails from Stony Plain, AB. Webber is already looking forward to her first ACAC soccer match. “I am most excited to play in the ACAC, and to experience the team and community support in that first home opener match. I chose GPRC because of the supportive coaching staff and competitive team environment.”

As a member of the Junior Pandas Soccer program since 2016, Webber is bringing a ton of great experience to the Wolves including her team being named the Seattle Sounders FC Cup Champions in 2017 and securing MVP Award in the Victoria Showcase in 2018. Webber also earned the Captain title of her 2018 Victoria U17 team.

Webber will be enrolled in our Bachelor of Education program at GPRC and is looking forward to starting her academic and athletic journey.

In catching up with Head Coach Chris Morgan, he mentions his delight to have Webber join the squad. “Khloe brings a real presence, enthusiasm and hunger to the game. She is a vocal player and is excellent in 1v1 situations. Khloe was so impressive at the College ID camp I attended, I’m looking forward to welcoming her to the pack and working with such a talented player.”

Each week, two GPRC Wolves athletes are selected for their achievements over the weekend on the field, track, or court. We are pleased to congratulate Calandra Bychyk from the Wolves Women’s Soccer team and Cole Clements from the Wolves Men’s Volleyball team as our current Featured Athletes of the Week!

Calandra Bychyk #10

Program: 2nd Year, University Transfer, Bachelor of Kinesiology
Position: Defense
Hometown: Stony Plain, Alberta

Calandra Bychyk is in her second season playing for the Wolves women’s soccer team. She has played a vital role for the team both on and off the pitch. As a dual-sport athlete, Calandra is an excellent example of hardwork and dedication. She is a strong player and provides a towering presence in the middle of the defense on the pitch. As a fearless player with a great personality, Calandra has scored some important goals for the team this season. Thank you to Calandra for her dedication to the Wolves.

Cole Clements #11 

Program: 1st Year, Business Administration
Position: Outside Hitter/Libero
Hometown: Grande Prairie, Alberta

In his first season in the Wolves program, Cole Clements has excelled in adapting to the demands of being a student-athlete in the ACAC. His consistent efforts in the classroom, weight room, and on the court in the first semester have set him up for a great career in the ACAC and as a part of the Wolves Volleyball program. Cole’s ball control and athleticism are an asset to the team as he can make plays on offense and defense.  The future looks bright for both Cole and the Wolves! Thank you to Cole for his dedication to the Wolves.

GPRC PEAK Kin Games 2018

Have you heard the buzz or seen the posters around campus promoting the upcoming GPRC KIN Games?

Wondering what it’s all about? Let the PE1050 class answer all your questions.

The #GPRCKinGames18  is an opportunity for all GPRC students to get together and have a friendly, fun competition that will promote a positive experience being active and learning about the supports and services at the College to assist you on your healthy living journey, connecting with peers and their campus, and most importantly, students will build fun memories that will last a lifetime.

The games will take place over a four-day period, November 5 to 8 and students will compete in teams of 8-10 with their peers and friends throughout the week for points.

The first two days will consist of team competitions in dodgeball, spikeball, floor hockey and wolf-pong. The third day will be a fun dance competition followed by a closing ceremony on the fourth and final day. There is something for everyone.

The experience will represent a taste of the culture, and vibrancy that is found in the PEAK and Campus Recreation departments at the College.

We encourage all students from all departments, sport teams and friend groups to get involved and help your team win great prizes for Best Dressed, Best Dance and the Spirit Award.

Let’s not forget the Championship team will win full bragging rights as they show off their champion shirts, amazing prizes and have their name etched on the ‘Golden Shoe’ Trophy at the closing ceremony.

So, what are you waiting for? Get involved and spend the beginning of November being a part of the first ever #GPRCKinGames18!

Each week, two GPRC Wolves athletes are selected for their achievements over the weekend on the field, track, or court. We are pleased to congratulate Rui Vale and Alex Verhun from the Wolves Men and Women’s Soccer teams as our current Athletes of the Week!

Rui Vale

It is a pleasure to have Rui return for his second year to represent the Wolves. Hailing from Portugal, Rui brings his creative talents to the field. Rui is graceful with a wonderful first touch, close control and tremendous vision. He also has a wicked shot with both feet.

Rui leads by example on and off the field. He is well respected by everyone connected with the soccer. He has a quiet demeanor but has a burning desire to succeed in the game.

 

 

Alex Verhun

Alex is in her second year with the Wolves and played an important role in last season’s success. A quiet and unassuming leader, Alex earns the respect of everyone with her phenomenal work-rate on the field. Alex leads the team with her play on the field. She competes for every ball, wins tackles and creates when in possession and continually showing tremendous stamina. Alex also possesses a super shot.

Off the field, Alex is an ideal student-athlete. Mature and balanced in all that she does, Alex always shows humility, respect and integrity.

GPRC Wolves Athletes of the Week: September 18, 2017

Each week, two GPRC Wolves athletes are selected to showcase their achievements in the classroom and on the field, track, or court. We are pleased to congratulate Jessica Winterford and Meghan Dalziel as our current Athletes of the Week!

Jessica Winterford

Jess, who enters her 4th year as a Wolf is a dynamic, creative midfielder and a wonderful passer of the ball. Her all action style is a joy to watch and she is the heartbeat of the team. Jess has great stamina, and is a fierce competitor who never gives an inch. With an ability to link defense and attack with ease, Jess has great vision, an explosive shot and scores important goals.

As a leader, Jess always sets a good example on and off the pitch, and is well respected by everyone which makes her a true asset to the Wolves Program.

 

Meghan Dalziel

Meghan Dalziel enters her 2nd year with the program after an impressive rookie season. Meghan can play in a number of positions and is a vital member of the squad. A solid defender, Meghan is aggressive and reads the game well. She is a great header of the ball and a real presence on the field.

Always composed under pressure, Meghan is also a talented technical player as she can use both feet, has great awareness, passing range and a terrific shot.
