GPRC Wolves Athletes of the Week: October 22, 2018

Each week, two GPRC Wolves athletes are selected for their achievements over the weekend on the field, track, or court. We are pleased to congratulate Britney Peters and Ethan Nashim from the Wolves Women’s Basketball team and Men’s Volleyball team as our current Athletes of the Week!

Britney Peters

Britney has put in a ton of work in the off season and it has shown in training and in games. She had a career high 20 points during their first season game vs. The Kings Eagles on October 19. Britney is a committed athlete and natural leader. She plays an integral role on the Wolves team and has really helped the first year athletes transition into the ACAC.

Ethan’s success on the floor comes as no surprise to his teammates and coaches. He has shown great dedication to training and growth throughout the off-season and during the first two months of his second year at GPRC.  He is a great example for his first year and future teammates showing that hard work pays off! During their home game on October 19, Ethan was an outlet scorer finishing with 16 kills and a .350 hitting efficiency. He also pitched in 5 service aces and had multiple runs to put Kings Eagles on the defensive.

GPRC Wolves Women’s Volleyball team are pleased to welcome to new recruits to their roster.

Tori Macooh

 

The GPRC Wolves are pleased to announce the signing of Tori Macooh.

Winning back-to-back Provincial Gold with the Spirit River Renegades in 2016 & 2017, Tori is a great addition to the Wolves defence. She will be a threat on the right side says Head Coach Chantelle LaMotte. Tori looks forward to becoming a stronger player and has had her sights set on GPRC for a long time. With a new coach and team, she is excited for her rookie season playing at the college level.

Mackenzie Morgan

The GPRC Wolves are pleased to announce the signing of Mackenzie Morgan.

Hailing from Grande Prairie, Mackenzie won 3A Provincials in 2015. Head Coach Chantelle LaMotte is looking forward to watching her grow as a player and says she will be an amazing asset to the team. Mackenzie is looking forward to representing her hometown and is honoured to check off a goal of hers – putting on a wolves jersey after growing up and watching the Wolves play. She is looking forward to getting this season started and showing her community what it means to be a wolf.

Each week, two GPRC Wolves athletes are selected for their achievements over the weekend on the field, track, or court. We are pleased to congratulate Brittany Duvall and Kyle Reynolds from Wolves Cross Country Running as our current Athletes of the Week!

Brittany Duvall

Hailing from the metropolis of Eaglesham, AB where she was the entire XC Running team at her high school (yep, a one-woman team!), Brittany Duvall enters her third and final season with the Wolves.

Enrolled in the Personal Trainer Program at GPRC, the two-time participant at the CCAA National XC Running Championships, Duvall looks forward to this season and a chance at qualifying for a third consecutive national championship, which are being held this November in Toronto.

 

 

 

Kyle Reynolds

Enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at GPRC, Mr. Reynolds returns to the Wolves for his 5th and final season and will provide veteran leadership in his “victory lap” year.  Reynolds, the 2004 CCAA National XC Running Individual Champion, has a legendary winning attitude and sense of humour that will help the young Wolves in their quest for an ACAC podium finish.

Each week,  GPRC Wolves athletes are selected for their achievements over the weekend on the field, track, or court. We are pleased to congratulate Dane Philipenko from Wolves Basketball as our current Athlete of the Week!

Dane Philipenko

Enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology program at GPRC, Dane Philipenko, a 3rd year Guard has great basketball IQ, and is well respected by his teammates and the opposition. He is a consistent scorer and in a recent exhibition trip to Edmonton gave a strong performance, scoring double figures in all three exhibition games. A strong and physical defender, Dane is a key member of the team and will be a leader for Men’s Basketball in the 2018-19 season.

Each week, two GPRC Wolves athletes are selected for their achievements over the weekend on the field, track, or court. We are pleased to congratulate Sydney Kelly and Pieter Boone from Wolves Soccer as our current Athletes of the Week!

Sydney Kelly

Sydney Kelly

Sydney, who is enrolled in Open Studies at GPRC, is in her rookie season and scored two goals in her home opener against the King’s University Eagles over the weekend, earning her Player of the Game recognition on Saturday.

A powerful player who is willing to work hard for her teammates when possession is lost, she can score with either foot, has good control and great stamina, she leads the offense brilliantly and possesses a wonderful attitude to the game.

Head Coach Chris Morgan says that “Sydney always sets a good example and is well respected by everyone.” He adds “She is a pleasure to coach and we look forward to more goals from her in a Wolves uniform.”

Pieter Boone

“It is a pleasure to have Pieter return for his 2nd year to represent the Wolves”, says Head Coach Morgan, “as well as being a real threat in the air, he is a strong and physical defender with a tremendous range of passing and a booming right foot.”

Pieter is enrolled in Open Studies at GPRC and was outstanding in the two games versus the King’s University Eagles over the weekend, with commanding performances on

defense, which earned him the Player of the Game nomination on Friday.

A real personality both on and off the field, Pieter is well liked by his peers and plays an important role within the squad.

The squads travel South this upcoming weekend, facing the University of Alberta – Augustana Vikings on Saturday, and NAIT Ooks on Sunday. Kick off is at 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm on Saturday, and 12:00pm and 2:00 pm on Sunday, with the Women’s game taking place first on both days.
