PF1900 Class Helping You Stay Active and Sane for Free

Looking to sneak in some *free* fitness classes into your day and battle those Winter blues? Happy to support the Personal Trainer program and up and coming fitness instructors? Well you are in luck!!

Students from PEAK’s PF1900 Group Exercise Fundamental Class are in need of practical hours for their class and will be offering free fitness classes between November 14 – 30 as a way to increase their hours and gain valuable experience instructing people through physical activities. Classes are open to all fitness levels, are scheduled at various times during the day, and will be between 30-45 minutes long. This is a fantastic way to incorporate some exercise without committing to a full gym membership! Three different fitness styles will be offered as a little variety for your to choose from;

Cycle

This is a 30-minute cycle class focusing on adding variety into your cardiovascular exercise! There will be a variety of drills designed to increase your heart rate, improve your cycling skills, and increase your leg strength.

Choreography

This is a 30-minute choreographed class. It will either improve your cardiovascular health, muscular strength, or both! All classes will be designed to move to the music. It will add a nice change to your normal exercise routine with a fun, energetic atmosphere.

Portable Equipment

This is a 30-minute class to work on increasing muscular strength and/or muscular endurance. A variety exercise equipment will be used to stimulate your muscles to work in a different way.

All classes are located at the GPRC (Grande Prairie Campus) and will be held in the M121 Fitness Studio. Contact Joel Thibault at JThibault@GPRC.ab.ca to let him know which class(es) you are interested in!

The spring lineup is here at GPRC SFW and will run from April 23 to June 29; totaling 10-weeks of classes.

GPRC Jump Rope for Heart – February 28, 2017

GPRC will be jumping for joy on Wednesday, February 28 as the local Heart & Stroke Foundation team up with GPRC Campus Recreation to promote healthy physical and mental health on our campus.

Throughout the day, there will be plenty of easy and fun activities for all students and staff to participate in that will definitely leave you with a smile.

Some of the activities throughout the day will include the Jump Off and Pie in Face Contest.

The Pie in Face Contest will feature five GPRC instructors who will be entering their faces for the contest; Anna Lapointe, Bruce Galenza, Les Rawluk, Ray Kardas, James Phillips and Brian Redmund.

The Jump Off Contest is only $5 dollars to enter and the winner will receive a new FitBit!

This event will be a reminder of the many campus activities happening throughout the year for the GPRC community to be a part of!

There is no cost to participate and registration is open to everyone.

On top of activities, draws, giveaways, and reading material, you are welcome to donate to the Heart & Stroke Foundation either online or in person.

Plenty more prizes for those who participate and donate.

It’s a new semester and our GPRC Campus Recreation staff are ready to kick it off strong.

Their recreational and competitive sport leagues offer something for everyone to ensure you get active and have fun all semester long.

Getting involved is easy.

Simply put a team together for one or more of our sport activities this Winter Semester and you’ll be eligible to have fun playing sports that you love, meet new people, break up your crazy school schedule and win some cool prizes along the way! The top finishing teams of a tournament or league will be awarded Championship T-Shirts courtesy of GPRC Campus Recreation!

Submit Team/Individual registration forms at the Fitness Centre.

The potential prizes for this semester haven’t been announced yet, so keep checking back for updates!

Did you know that students who are physically active have lower stress levels and perform better in school? Most students know the benefits of regular exercise, but it can be difficult to keep up a regiment while balancing the demands of school and other commitments. GPRC is making it easy to get active next semester with a range of fun and affordable group fitness classes, where GPRC students enjoy a 75% discount! From Yin Yoga to Spin Class to Chisel Strength and Social Dance classes, Campus Recreation has a class for you.

Kick off the new year right—join one of next semester’s Group Fitness Classes! Registration is now open and you can sign up for a class at the Fitness Centre during all regular business hours. The FC Desk and Weightroom will be open during the holidays in case you happen to be on campus and want to sign up.

  • Classes start January 8 and run for 14 weeks until April 13
