Wolves X Country & Indoor Track Coach
Bill has worked at Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) since the Fall of 1991. He has held a number of positions including Business Instructor, Chairperson, and Director of Enrollment Management. In his first year at GPRC, he started coaching XC running. Over the past 24 seasons, in partnership with co-coach Rick Scott, GPRC runners have won numerous ACAC and CCAA medals including three CCAA individual champions and the 2014 CCAA women’s team championship. Under Bill’s guidance, two GPRC athletes have gone on to represent Canada at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships.
Track & Field and running have been a large part of Bill’s life. He ran varsity XC and track for both the University of Calgary and UBC back in the 1980s. In 1983, he placed 12th in the Athletics Canada National Marathon Championships. After starting to coach, he completed all the requirements for the NCCP Level 3 in Distance Running. In June 2013, Bill was elected as CCAA XC Convenor, taking over from the legendary Brian Stackhouse. This past year, he was recognized by Athletics Alberta as the 2014 Volunteer of the Year and by the NW ASDC as the 2015 Peace Country High Performance Coach of the Year.
Bill has been happily married to Marlene for the past 25 years. They have two grown children currently attending university.
