Steve Burgess Memorial Run
The GPRC Wolves X-Country running team, is pleased to host the 2019 Steve Burgess Memorial cross-country running race. The race honors the memory of Steve Burgess, a true friend of the local running and cross-country skiing communities, who passed away suddenly in a cycling accident in June 2001.
At the time of his death, Steve and his law partners Cyril Gurevitch and Andy Beal operated a thriving law practice in Grande Prairie. Outside of work, Steve was a passionate outdoorsman and fitness enthusiast. He really enjoyed xc skiing, cycling, and trail running at the Wapiti Nordic Ski Trails.
Steve was a huge supporter of Wolves XC running. In 1994, he established a yearly donation to the xc team and a scholarship for a second-year GPRC runner that has been awarded every year for the past 25 years. His oldest son Micheal ran for the Wolves in 1995.
Steve is fondly remembered for his quick wit, irreverence, and generous nature. He truly was a pillar of the Grande Prairie community. His wife Carrie, three children, extended family, and his many friends and colleagues miss him dearly.
We are proud to be a part of the 2019 New Balance XC series and to be Race #3 in the 2019 ACAC X-C Grand Prix Series.
