Learn to Train – Introduction to Competition, Course being offered in Grande Prairie
We are excited to offer this NCCP course in Grande Prairie for the first time in three years. This course is a great resource for basketball coaches at the Junior High and High School levels, as it provides material directly from the Basketball Canada curriculum. Coaches will learn a variety of drills, concepts and approaches that will help them become more effective coaches. Coaches will also receive National certification upon completing this course.
September 28-29 in Grande Prairie at GPRC in Classroom J226
Time: 9:00 am - 4:30 pm both days
Cost: $250 + GST for Basketball Alberta Members, $475 + GST for non-Basketball Alberta Members

This two-day workshop is the suggested pre-requisite for Train to Train and provides an exceptional foundation for your coaching career. You will also be introduced to new coaching methods that will enhance your coaching and your program’s effectiveness. Coaches will be taking the court for some drill demonstrations & will need to bring appropriate gym apparel and shoes. Through a mix of classroom and hands-on learning in the gym, this 15-hour workshop focuses on:
How to break down and teach fundamental basketball concepts
Shooting, loading, dynamic warm up, 1 second advantage, spacing, footwork and error detection/correction
How to load a basketball skill and drill
Developing an effective practice plan
Make Ethical Decisions – a must-have skill for every coach and an NCCP requirement for all sports

Coaches working with youth players in the Learn to Train stage of LTAD*
Coaches looking to enhance their knowledge and effectiveness in coaching youth
Advanced/experienced coaches looking to transfer their knowledge to acquire games approach drills and an understanding of this age group
