GPRC Wolves Athletics is pleased to welcome you to a fall session of Wolves Minor Basketball. With 6 sessions in
the season, the program is for kids 5 – 13 years of age (by December 31, 2019) and runs September 8th, 15th,
22nd, 29th, October 6th and October 20th. Sessions will be on Sundays from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Participants are
broken up into age groups to provide greater opportunities for more individualized skill acquisition.
All groups will be run with skill sessions and fundamentals of the game. The sessions will include more modified
games, to give the kids a chance to use their new skills right away. Age-appropriate teaching methods are used for

Lead Coach - Maren Roberts
With a lifetime of basketball experience, Maren Roberts joins the Wolves Minor Basketball program, as the Lead
A successful University Athlete, Roberts played 5 years with the Simon Fraser University Clan, winning two CIS
National Championships, including a 45 game winning streak in the 2004-5 season and undefeated in the 2001-2 season.
In addition to CIS success, Roberts also competed with Team BC winning Gold Medals at Canada Summer Games in 2001 and
Western Canada Summer Games in 1999.
"I'm looking forward to being part of another Fall Session of Wolves Minor Basketball" says Roberts, believing in the
program as a coach and parent "for all the benefits it provides young athletes and families". Roberts has carefully planned the sessions to align with Canada's Long Term Athlete Development model, and she uses current Canada Basketball
coaching resources to maintain a high standard of drills and games. Taking time to consider the coach to athlete ratio, Roberts is aware of its importance because "young
players have the opportunity to connect with and look up to the college athletes as coaches and role models", going on to conclude that she is "excited to get started, meet some new faces, and welcome back the returning families".
Roberts, a teacher in the Grande Prairie School District for the last six years, coaching young children and molding young athletes. An instructor with the Wolves Minor Basketball program last year, Roberts brings a strong professional presence to the program, and as a patient and passionate coach with a keen interest in developing the basketball skills of young athletes, she is indeed an asset to the program, and our community.
“Maren is a fantastic addition to this program. She is incredibly passionate about developing physical literacy and
makes sure each participant has a great time. We are thankful Maren spends her time enriching sport in the
community,” Thomas Slifka, Athletic Manger.
Our Wolves Student Athletes from the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams are thrilled to serve as
Assistant Coaches again.
