Wolves Welcome New Year In Arizona
January 5th, 2009
Leaving behind the snow and the cold, the GPRC Women’s basketball team brought in the New Year, in the warmth of the Arizona desert. The Wolves spent a week in Phoenix, AZ, shaking off the rust of the winter break while competing against top Junior College teams from the United States.
The Wolves had a busy week of basketball, as they played five games down South against various NJCAA teams. The squad started off playing teams from the surrounding areas in Arizona, including Scottsdale Community College and Glendale Community College. On New Year’s Day, the Wolves lost 68-66 to Madison Area Technical Institute from Madison, Wisconsin. Madison is currently ranked #5 in the National NJCAA Division III rankings. GPRC then finished up the trip with games against Phoenix College and Luke Air Force Base, from Arizona. The team played top level competition all week long and improved their game throughout the exhibition tour of US teams.
It wasn’t all work for the Wolves in Arizona, as they had plenty of time to soak up the sun and warmth of Phoenix. The team also attended a Phoenix Coyotes NHL game on New Year’s Eve and most importantly, saw Canada’s own Steve Nash play as the squad attended a Phoenix Suns / L.A. Clippers game.
