OVERVIEW
Analyzed more than 10,000 samples (over 60,000
individual diagnostic tests), building a national
database of diagnostic information
Hosted 15 students from across Canada and 3
international visiting scholars
Worked with apiculturists from across Canada
Became an international centre, establishing formal
partnerships with organizations on four continents
(North and South America, Europe and Oceania)
Adapted and developed several analytical protocols,
tools and procedures, both independently and
collaboratively, for:
Testing for exotic pests like Small Hive Beetle
Determining the viability of chalkbrood spores
affecting leafcutter bees
Diagnosing the prevalence of several pathogens
in bumblebees
Quantifying the parasite Lotmaria Passim
Detecting and quantifying Deformed Wing Virus
B (Varroa Destructor Virus) in honey bees
