FAIRVIEW – Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) honoured the achievements of the latest graduates at Fairview campus this weekend in the Fred Speckeen Theatre. The total graduating class is approximately 375 students for the 2017-2018 Academic Year.
This year’s Valedictorian was Power Engineering graduate Braydon Germann. Germann, who has completed his third class Power Engineering credentials with academic excellence, was honoured to represent his fellow classmates.
“For many of us, College is an experience and a period of time in our lives that has made a great impact in shaping the individuals we are today, and the individuals we pursue to be tomorrow,” said Germann. “College is so much more than gaining knowledge, but an opportunity to build our futures, gain experience and get involved by building relationships that will last a lifetime.”
Germann overcame many obstacles to get to where he is today and thanked GPRC Student Services for the support and resources available for students.
“Many of us struggle with different aspects of school. For me, it was reading,” he said. “We all learn differently and that’s not something we should hide behind. We’re all here today because of the hard work we’ve put in, and no one can take that away from us.”
GPRC Student Services offers many different learning tools and resources for students through its Accessibility Services program such as classroom and exam accommodations, notetaking assistance and assistive technology support.
Germann left his fellow graduates with the following advice: “As you enter the working world, remember how it felt to be inspired and led in the proper direction. You are now in the position to share your knowledge, experience and skills. Be involved, not only for the advancement and growth of your workplace and your community but also for you as an individual.”
Graduating students, family members and honorary guests in attendance of convocation were invited to a President’s Tea after the ceremonies in GPRC Fairview’s Atrium.
“Today marks a very special day,” said Don Gnatiuk, GPRC President and CEO. “We are exceptionally proud of all our graduates as they continue to amaze us with their personal and academic accomplishments. We thank them for choosing GPRC to begin their academic journeys with and wish them the best as they go off in pursuit of their life dreams. We know each and every one of them are a vital part of a better future for all of us.”
