The skilled Slovakian forward has been a key factor in the Wolves recent success. Katarina's versatility and deep knowledge of the game has been a major asset to the Wolves since she joined the program, as she is often asked to play both the guard and forward spots. A true competitor, Katarina has been a key contributor all season long. Driven by Katarina's intensity and experience in big games, the Wolves look primed for a strong second half run. |
Originally from New Zealand, first year guard Kelly O'Hallahan is off to a sensational start to her college career, as she currently leads the Wolves in scoring with 12.25 points per game and is in the top ten of the league's top scorers. O'Hallahan joined the Wolves after an outstanding season with Peace Wapiti Academy, in which she helped lead them to the Zone Championship and Provincials berth. The talented first year guard will continue to be relied upon as the Wolves continue their second semester. |

The Wolves are now at 5-9 on the season & travel to Lloydminister to play Lakeland College this weekend.

Wolves: A Championship Season In Review
With the end of the school year, we now have time to look back at the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves Women’s basketball team, who just completed arguably the best season in the history of the Wolves program. We’ll take a look at each of part of their golden season that eventually led them to their first ACAC Championship in 16 years and a chance to compete at CCAA Nationals in Niagara, Ontario.
Offseason
The Wolves were coming off one of their most disappointing seasons in recent history heading into the 2010/2011 season. The team had finished a mediocre 12-12 in the regular season and were eliminated in the first round of the ACAC playoffs for the third straight year. Six key veteran players were returning to the Wolves, including four of the team’s past starting five and all were determined to finish the year differently this time around. Also returning was Head Coach, Dave Waknuk, who had taken over the team midway through last season and was now entering his first full season as Head Coach, with his returning coaching staff of Bill Shaw and Lisa Deneault. Changes were made to the roster and several key recruits were added to the program, strengthening the talent level of this team. Quietly, expectations were high for this group but there was still plenty of work to be done. To read more of the article click here
Golden Evening For The Wolves
Carlyon, Team Repeat As Top Award Winners
May 14th, 2011
GPRC Athletics recently held their 40th Annual Festival Of Gold Athletics banquet and the Wolves Women’s Basketball team capped off a successful season with a very successful night. Wolves forward, Andria Carlyon took the top honour of the night, winning “GPRC Female Athlete of the Year” for the second straight year; this time sharing the award with CCAA National Champion X-Country Runner, Fiona Benson. Also, for the second straight year, Carlyon was named the team’s Most Valuable Player, alongside team captain, Jaelle Buhler. In keeping with the repeating theme, Buhler was also named a CCAA Academic All-Canadian again, for her excellence in the classroom and on the court. For full story click here
